Information from “The Worthing Herald,” 11 July 1952. To Bulawayo. Mrs Roy Baxter, formerly Miss Margaret Leadbetter, daughter of Mr and Mrs T.A. Napier Leadbetter, of Red Lodge, Seaview-road, has gone with her husband to Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia, where Mr Baxter, a civil engineer, has a job with Southern Rhodesian Railways. The were married in 1950 and in January this year their son, Duncan was born. He sailed with them in the Athlone Castle to Capetown. After staying with friends in Durban, Mr and Mrs Baxter move on to Bulawayo where they soon hope to be settled in their bungalow. This is surrounded by grounds in which are separate quarters for their native servants. They will be in Southern Rhodesia between three and four years before returning for their first leave. Their address is P.O.Box 604, Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. Before her marriage Mrs Baxter was employed by the West Sussex County Council as a dental receptionist. During the war, she was an ATS officer and later specialised in welfare work. She has also been an officer in the Women’s Junior Air Corps and has worked in a bank in Worthing. Mr Baxter, the son of Mr and Mrs Hilder Baxter, of Trevine, Southey-road, was a Flight Lieutenant in Bomber Command during the war. He served in Burma and South Africa. This is his wife’s first journey out of Britain. They met when both were committee members of the Young Conservatives. They also belonged to West Worthing Tennis Club and Mrs Baxter was a popular member of the West Sussex Players, with whom she was in several plays during her five years membership.
