Much regret was felt in Yass on Tuesday night when it was learned that Mr. William Jeremiah Leary had died at Yass Hospital. He became ill about three weeks ago, and was laid up at home for a week. Dr. Little then advised his removal to Yass District Hospital. This was done, but he did not get better, and died at 20 minutes past 9 on Tuesday night. The cause of death was typhoid or enteric fever. This is the first fatal case from the complaint there has been here for some years past. It comas periodically, however, after longer or shorter intervals, and claims victims on each appearance. Deceased was 40 years of age, and a native of the district. His father, Mr William Jeremiah Leary, is a well known Yass River resident. His mother died many years ago. Deceased was employed as a motor mechanic at Moore's Garage, and was well known both to the local and travelling public. He was a capable mechanic and of an obliging disposition, and was well liked by all. He leaves a wife and three young children. Mrs Leary is greatly distressed. The death of her husband is most unfortunate in her case, as her children are young and she has had a racking time since her husband became ill. Very deep sympathy is felt for her in her affliction, and also for the late Mr Leary's relatives. The funeral, this afternoon, moved from St. Augustine's Church, the burial being in the Catholic portion of Yass cemetery. The last rites were performed by the Rev. Father O'Connor. Mr W. McIntosh was the undertaker. Death of Mr. W. J. Leary. (1928, January 19). The Yass Courier (NSW : 1857 - 1929), p. 5. Retrieved July 11, 2022, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article249811773
