Biography
August was born about 1842. He passed away about 1926. Johann Friedrich Wilhelm August arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia aboard "Helena" on 24th December 1851 with his parents. [1]
Johann Friedrich Wilhelm August LEHMANN passed away on the 19-Apr-1926 at Nuriootpa. He was registered as 83, married, and living in Nuriootpa at the time of his death. The informant was E G LEHMANN [S].[2]
- OBITUARY.
- The death occurred at his residence near Nuriootpa, this week, of August Lehmann, aged 83, an old identity of the district. Deceased was born in Germany, and came out to South Australia about 1851. Typical of the old pioneers, he was not afraid of hard work, and the little home and possessions which yielded such contentment in the autumntide of his life, were hard-won, and his straightforwardness won for him a large circle of friends as amply evidenced by the funeral, which took place in the Nuriootpa cemetery on Tuesday when, the Revd. Heldt administered the last rites. The mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Mr. Keller. Of the family, Messrs. J. W., C. A., and T. H. and Mrs. Altmann and Mrs. Kruger, reside at Nuriootpa; a son. Julius, at Tanunda; and two daughters elsewhere.[3]
