Jacob Leiter was the son of Jacob Leiter and his second wife, Elizabeth, born 1749, presumably in Warwick, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where his parents were living at the time.[1][2][3][4]
Jacob was about 15 years old when his father died, in 1764. Jacob and his brother Peter are named in their father's will as his two youngest sons by his second wife. They were to receive "the place of land whereon I now live, containing 362 acres, more or less" and £100 "as the portion of their mother". The family was living in Washington County, Maryland at the time.[4][3]
