Absalom (of Louisa) Lewis Sr.1 M, b. 1740, d. before 30 May 1814 Mother Louisa 'Lueser' 'Ludy' (of Wm) Lewis b. c 1722 Last Edited 13 Apr 2017 Birth* 1740 Absalom was born in 1740 at Accomack Co, VA.2 Bound Out 30 August 1743 He was bound out on 30 August 1743 at Accomack Co, VA. Absalom Lewis, illegitimate child of Ludy Lewis, was bound to John Banfield to learn the "Trade of a Weaver & Slay Maker."3 Bound Out* 29 January 1750/51 He was bound out on 29 January 1750/51 at Accomack Co, VA. Absalom Lewis, 11 year old son of Louisa Lewis, was bound to Hope Ewell till lawful age to learn the trade of house carpenter.2 Bound Out 30 July 1754 He was bound out on 30 July 1754 at Accomack Parish, Acc Co, VA. Ordered that Absalem Lewis Aged Fourteen years or thereabouts be bound by Church Wardens of Accomack Parish to George Hope till Lawfull age to learn the Trade of a House Carpenter he the said Hope first giving Security for Performance of Conditions in said Indenture.4 Marriage* circa 1760 He married Esther (-----) circa 1760.1 Land bought* 21 January 1779 Absalom (of Louisa) Lewis Sr. bought land on 21 January 1779 at Shores Island, Accomack Co, VA. John Chandler and his wife Patience sold 100 acres of land and marsh at a place called Shores Island to Absolam Lewis for 200 pounds money of Virginia. It was on the North East side of the mouth of Hunting Creek, bounded on the line of George Hope Ewell and so turning a long the said George Hope Ewell's unto Little Back Creek and down the said creek to the Back Side and from thence along the Bayside to the line of George Hope Ewell together with all hammocks and marshes and timber. Witt: Ephraim Hall, Custis Darby, Thomas Chandler and Litt (his X mark) Chandler.5 Biography* Absalom Lewis Sr. was listed in the Acc Co, VA, Personal Property Tax 1787 -List "A" with the following tithables: 1 white male above 16 and under 21; 1 horse, mare, colt or mule; and 9 cattle. Among his neighbors were Bridget and Isaiah Justis; and John, Molly, and William Lewis. William R. Custis was the security on his 1805 Acc Co M.L.B. to Rachel Ross. Census* 1787 He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1787 at Accomack Co, VA.6 Marriage* 28 November 1805 He married Rachel Bloxom, daughter of William Bloxom (Cattail) and Sarah Johnson, on 28 November 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. William R. Custis was the security on the M.L.B. of Absalom Lewis and Rachel Ross..7 Administrator* 31 December 1805 Absalom was named as administrator of an estate on 31 December 1805 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Absalom Ross was granted to Absalom Lewis Sr. with Jonathan Mears security.8 Will* 27 August 1808 He made a will on 27 August 1808 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as Abslom Lewis Sr. - ITEM I lend unto my wife Rachel Lewis the house I now live in and one acre and a half of ground adjoining said house and two cows and calf first choice during her natural life or widowhood. ITEM I give unto my granddaughter Sally Justice five pounds cash. ITEM I give unto my grandson Revel Lewis five pounds cash. ITEM I give unto my grandson James Lewis five pounds cash. ITEM I lend unto my son Raymond Lewis during his life thirty acres of land on Sexes Island binding on starting line and the land of Wharton bought of Benjamin Marshall, provided my son Raymond Lewis pays to my daughter Ludy Jones $112.50 and my son Absalom Lewis Jur. $112.50. At my son Raymond Lewis death I give the aforesaid thirty acres of land to my granddaughter Lusy Lewis. ITEM I lend unto my son Revel Lewis during his life thirty of land on Sexes Island adjoining Lintons land and the land Wharton bought of Marshall, provided my son Revel Lewis pays to my son Absalom Lewis or his heirs $112.50 and my daughter Ludy Jones or her heirs $112.50. At my son Revel Lewis death I give the aforesaid thirty acres of land to my grandson Absalom Lewis of Revel. ITEM I give my son Revel Lewis one horse and one cow. ITEM I give unto my daughter Ludy Jones one cow and one bed now in her possession. The remainder of my personal estate not yet divided I leave to be equally divided between my three sons (viz) Absalom Lewis, Raymond Lewis and Revel Lewis. Absalom Lewis and Raymond Lewis were named executors. Signed: Absalom (his X mark) Lewis. Witnesses: Arthur Watson, Betsy Poulson, and Polly Watson. It was proved on 30 May 1814 by the oaths of Arthur Watson and Polly Watson witnesses. Absalom Lewis, one of the executors, and with Revel Lewis and George Russell his securities, entered into a bond of $5,000 and a certificate was granted to him for obtaining a probate thereof (Acc Co Wills & c., 1812-1814, pp. 421-422)..9 Death* before 30 May 1814 Absalom died before 30 May 1814 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was probated.
