Biography

Not much is known about Joseph Lewis other than he married Prudence Goulstone on the 6th November 1808 at St Peter's Parish Church in Carmarthen. His occupation was given as a painter.

They had seven children together that have been identified:-

  • Matilda Lewis born 11 June 1809
  • Henry Joseph Lewis born 3 December 1810
  • Margaret Lewis born 24 November 1812
  • Joseph Lewis born 20 October 1814
  • Charles David Lewis born 6 May 1817
  • William Goulstone Lewis born 24 May 1820
  • Theresa Arabella Lewis born 30 August 1823

At the time of the 1841 census Lewis has probably died as there is no record of him with his wife and children on the census return.

Hi Byron, I think Joseph may have died Q3 1838, Carmarthen. See GRO Index for that year, Volume 26 Page 310. I'm interested in this family, as it appears I am connected via Joseph's wife, Prudence Goulstone, and via his daughter-in-law, Ellen Goulstone. (Ellen married Jospeh and Prudence's son, Henry, and then a William Lewis, possibly also their son.) I am hoping to add more family members before long. Cheers, Kathy
