Raymond Russell Leyde was born on 29 September 1916 in Mount Clemens, Macomb, Michigan, United States, son of Howard Joseph Leyde (1890–1921), a pottery decorator, and Hazel W Otto (1899–1945). His parents divorced in 1921.^[1]

On 3 January 1921, Hazel O. Leyde filed for divorce from Howard Leyde. The case was not contested and the divorce was absolutely granted on 16 May 1921.^[2] On 21 December 1921, when Raymond was five years old, Howard Leyde murdered his two younger brothers James and William and then committed suicide.

When his mother married Paul Andrew Klar (1892-1928) on 1 January 1922, Raymond took the surname Klar.^[3] Unfortunately, Paul Klar died in 1928 at the age of 36.^[4]

His mother married Forrest William Hughes on 5 November 1928.^[5] In 1930, Raymond Klar (13) lived in Mount Clemens, Macomb, Michigan, in the household of his stepfather Forest Hughes.^[6]

Raymond Russell Klar married Betty Lorraine Yount on 24 October 1936 in Mineral, West Virginia.^[7]

In 1940, Raymond and Betty worked in a pottery works, he as a printer and she as a ware washer.^[8]

Raymond Russell Klar died on 24 August 1963 in Macomb County, Michigan, aged 46. He was buried in the Clinton Grove Cemetery in Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan.^[9]
