Mosie Lister is considered the greatest Southern Gospel composer of all time and was an original member and lead singer of the Statesmen's Quartet.

Biography

Mosie was born on September 8, 1921 to WIllis and Pearl Lister in Cochran, Georgia.

Mosie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the SC-521 which was a submarine chaser that eventually foundered off Santa Cruz in the Solomon Islands.

On June 2, 1946, he married Jewel "Wylene" Whitten in Hillsborough, Florida. Two daughters would be born to this union.

In 1976, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and in 1997, he was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Association.

He passed away on February 12, 2015 and was buried in Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Tennessee.
