They emigrated to the United States in 1884, arriving in New York on October 25 aboard the SS Elbe.[3]
They eventually settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the first three of their four children were born,[4][5][6]
They then moved to the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston around 1895, where their youngest child was born.[7] Magdalena was enumerated in the US Federal Censuses of 1900[8] and 1910[9] She died August 25, 1913, at home in Boston, Massachusetts, and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery.[10]

The German word for Madeleine is Magdalene. She always considered herself German, and used the German form, BUT birth certificate is French and reads Madeleine.
