565. Caleb William Loring (Charles G., Caleb, Caleb, Caleb, John, Thomas), born at Dorchester July 31, 1819; married January 15, 1845, Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Joseph Augustus and Louisa (Putnam) Peabody, born at Salem July 31, 1822, died at Boston December 13, 1869. He was educated at the Boston Latin School and was graduated from Harvard College in 1839 {detur, 1836), and from the Law School in 1841. Was admitted to the bar in 1842. After some years in his father's office he opened one of his own. His law gradually gave way to trustees' business and to active concern in manufacturing. He was president of the Plymouth Cordage Company, founded in 1824 by Bourne Spooner and Caleb Loring. He lived in Boston and at Pride's Crossing where he built a summer home in 1852; after 1872 he lived there all the time. His love of nature was great and he developed his estate very beautifully. He died at Camden, S. C, January 29, 1897; was buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
