Finevola was a daughter of Ian MacLeod, known as Ian Borb (John the Turbulent) and Chief of Clan MacLeod. His wife is not provided in original source but she is said to be a granddaughter of the Earl of Douglas, the name believed to be Margaret. Her name is not provided in the Macleod genealogy although Finevola is confirmed in other family genealogies.[1][2]
Finevola married Lauchlan MacLean. seventh of Duart, [3] that source noting that they had two sons: Neil and John Garbh. The Peerage website,[4] although not confirmed in original source material, suggests that she married, firstly, Lachlan 'Bronnach' Maclean, 4th of Duart, son of Eachan 'Ruadh nan Cath' Maclean, 3rd of Duart, likely the same person but numbered differently, and then she married, secondly, Gilleonan Macneil, 9th of Barra, son of Roderick Macneil, 8th of Barra and unknown daughter Maclean. She had, at least one son, Roderick, by her second marriage.
