BROWN -- Dr. Natividad Macaranas Brown Educator was born on December 20, 1924 in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Philippines and went to be with Jesus in Glory on December 24, 2010. She leaves behind her husband, Charles E. Brown; a daughter Carey Allen Kiekel; a son-in-law Paul Kiekell two grandsons who were a great joy to her - Ben Kiekel, 23, (fiancee Kristen Wargo) and Steven Kiekel, 22; five stepchildren including Mary Brown Pawlyshyn of Portales, NM; sister-in-law and dear friend Janie Allen Cooper; two sisters , and several nieces and nephews including her nephew as well as close friend, Joe Macaranas of the Philippines. She was predeceased by her first husband, Neil Carey Allen, who served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps during the Korean War, and her second husband, Dr. Dayle Sittler, a popular Physics professor at ENMU during the 1970's. Dr. Macaranas obtained her doctorate in Psychology from Stanford University. She received two Fulbright scholarships and a full scholarship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for which she was immensely grateful. She taught Psychology at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) from 1965-1993, achieved full professorship and became Chairman of the Psychology Department. She retired as Distinguished Faculty Emeritus and received numerous awards for teaching, including The President's Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching (1982) and being inducted into the ENMU Hall of Honor. Known for her workshops, which enabled teachers and returning students to obtain continuing education credits on weekends and breaks, she was nicknamed "Workshop Allen" by her colleagues. She was the author of a number of publications, including award-winning poems and four books. Using her talents as a marvelous cook and hostess, she helped to raise funds for the AAUW scholarship program by organizing Philippine dinners. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Psychology Honor Society (Psi Chi) Scholarship which Dr. Macaranas set up upon her retirement to the ENMU Foundation, designated to Dr. Natividad Macaranas Psi Chi Scholarship Endowment. The address is ENMU Station 8, 1500 S. Ave. K, Portales, NM 88130. Private burial is planned in the Portales Cemetery. The family would like to invite everyone to a memorial celebration of Natividad Macaranas Brown's life on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., at the Council of Professors Emeriti (COPE) building, 1700 S.
