Biography

Jane was born in Staffordshire, England, in 1834. She is the daughter of Robert Maddock.

She lived with her parents, Robert and Mary, brother William and sister Sarah in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, in 1841.^[1]

Her family came to the United States sometime between 1845 and 1850. Her mother Mary and her sister Sarah most likely died before 1850. In 1850 Jane lived with her father Robert, two brothers William and Robert, and younger sister Mary in Springfield, Franklin, Indiana.^[2]

She married Charles Clemmens Councell in Franklin County, Indiana, in 1855.^[3]

In 1860 she lived in New Castle, Henry, Indiana with her husband Charles and their two children, John and Della. Jane's sister Mary also lived with them.^[4]

In 1870 Jane and Charles lived in Washington, Grant, Indiana with their three children John, Della, and Lotta. Jane's occupation was keeping house. All three of the children were in school.^[5]

Jane was living in Marion, Indiana in 1891 when her daughter Della died of measles. Only Jane and John are mentioned as surviving family in the obituary, so Charles and the youngest daughter Lotta must have died before 1891.^[6]

I merged the profiles for Jane Maddock Councell and Jane Maddock after finding the 1850 U.S. and 1841 UK census records for Jane which connect her to her father and brother on both sides of the Atlantic.

I did not find any death or burial record for Jane.
