Biography

This profile is part of the Mainwaring Name Study.

Boulton Mainwaring was born about 1702 in Audley, Staffordshire, to Mary Boulton and Henry Mainwaring, a surgeon.[1]

In 1715, after his father’s death, he was apprenticed to John Beech, a joiner based in the nearby village of Barthomley, Cheshire.[1]

Boulton Mainwaring, son of Mary Mainwaring of Audley, Staffordshire, was an apprentice to John Beech, joiner, on 4 July 1715 in Barthomley, Cheshire.[2]

Boulton Manwareing married Jane Ames on 20 September 1729 in Holy Trinity, Minories, City of London, London, England.[3]

Boulton Meinwaring's daughter Jenny Meinwaring was baptised on 25 February 1731 in Saint George in The East, Stepney, London, England.[4]

His son was William Mainwaring (1735–1821).

Boulton Mainwaring was the architect of the London Hospital. George III remarked that he was merely ‘some tradesman’, and the King's comment has fostered doubt that he could have been sole designer of the hospital. Research carried out for the Survey of London has clarified that Mainwaring played a pivotal role in securing a site and designing a new building.[1]

Boulton Manwaring Esq from Norwood green was buried on 22 February 1778 in St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex, England.[5]

Boulton Mainwaring Esq died in about 1778 in Isleworth, Middlesex, England. His will passed probate on 5 March 1778.[6]
