MRS. MARY CALLAN
We regret to record the passing of a very old and esteemed resident of the Canowindra district, in the person of Mrs. Mary Callan, wife of Mr. Thomas Callan, of Emu Creek, at the age of 72, and sister-in-law to Mr. P. Callan, Thompson St., Cootamundra.
Mrs. Callan was born at Childowia, near Jugiong, and was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mallon. It was there that she met and married Mr. Callan, who also resided at Jugiong, and they went to the Canowindra district some 49 years ago following farming pursuits, and becoming very prosperous, following on success. They had a family of nine daughters and two sons, three daughters having previously passed away. The remaining children being: Mrs. P. O'Neill, of Woodstock Road; Mrs. J. Cutcliffe, of Eugowra; Matron N. Callan, of Canowindra; Mrs. J. Lynch, of Chaucer; Mrs. J. D. Robinson, of Kensington;. Mrs. D. E. Finn, of Canowindra; Mr. Thomas Callan, of Canowindra. and Mr. James Callan, of Chaucer, Mrs. T. P. Grant, of "The Falla," Canowindra, and Mrs. E. Bermingham, of Sydney, are deceased surviving sisters.
