Catherine died in Adelaide, South Australia on 4 August 1952 at the age of 64 years.^[3] The following death notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The News, on 4 August 1952:^[4]

CANTWELL.-On August 4, at hospital, Catherine (Katie), dearly beloved wife of Edward Cantwell, of 1 Alfred street, Walkerville, and loving mother of Kath, Coral, Eileen. Nance, and Pat, also Tony (deceased); aged. 64 years. Requiescat in pace.

Catherine was buried at the Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, South Australia on 5 August 1952.^[4][5][6]
