Biography

Jacob was born in 1890. He was the son of Jacob Mancktelow and Emily Jenner.

Jacob's birth was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1890 in the Wandsworth district.^[1]

He passed away in 1916.

At some point, Jacob emigrated from England and landed in Canada.

From the records on the Government of Canada's archives on soldiers of the First World War, this is what we know about Jacob:

• he signed his name as "Jacob Alan Mancktelow" on his Attestation papers. But the Canadian military records show his middle name as "Allan."
• he signed his Attestation papers in Winnipeg on October 28, 1914.
• these papers shows that he was 1.7 m in height, light complexion, with brown eyes and brown hair
• he was a private in the 27th Battalian (the "Winnipeg Battalion")
• he sailed from Québec City aboard the S.S. Carpathia on May 17, 1915
• he embarked for France on September 17, 1915
• he was killed in action on January 9, 1916. the records show that he was shot by a rifle bullet in the head
• he is buried in Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery in West Vlaanderren, Belgium.
• his last pay cheque was sent to Alice Mancktelow (his sister) in Winnipeg, Manitoba
