He spent part of his childhood in the Glen Lake Tuberculosis Sanitorium and also with his grandmother St Martin LaBrie in Minneapolis. He joined the military and died on October 28, 1965, in the Republic of Vietnam at the age of 28, and was buried in Osseo, Minnesota
