Thomas Henry Manuell was born in Chasewater, Cornwall on the 29 December 1907 he had an older sister called Doris, and in 1910 the family grew when he had a Brother in the 1911 census he was living at "New Row" Chasewater with Mother Father and Doris. The 1911 Census:-

In 1912 his brother Frederick was born and a few months later at the age of 6 he was Baptized in Chasewater along with his Sister Doris and his Brother Frederick this is probably because Frederick was not well as within a few months Fred had died.
Also in 1913 Thomas got another sister Enid and then 3 years later a Brother John Verdun. Ten years on and at the age of 19 he got married to Chrissie Wills and then had a child Thomas Trevor and the 14 months later in November 1927 a Girl called Nancy, He was now only 20 years old. His sister Doris was married in 1928 and emigrated to Canada and this made Thomas and Chrissie consider making plans to follow them to Canada . . . .or did it? . . . We now have 2 different stories from here on,
First Chrissie's Story She always maintained Thomas was going to start a new life in Canada and he would send for her and his children Thomas, Nancy and a third as yet unborn child Ronald as soon as possible to join him, he borrowed £50 from his mother and set sail on the SS Montcalm for St John, New Brunswick, Canada, on the 13th April 1929.
He did not see his children again and never met Ronald.

Notes for Thomas Henry MANUELL:
Thomas was trained as a blacksmith. His marriage to Chrissie was apparently against his mother's wishes. His father was abroad in the South African goldmines much of the time. Tom and Chrissie had two children Trevor and Nancy but, early in 1929, Chrissie became pregnant with a third child (Ronald) which, it appears was not Tom's. Tom decided to leave, borrowing £50 from his mother. (source Tom's brother Verdun) He took passage on the Canadian Pacific SS Montcalm arriving in St John NB on 22 April 1929. His sister Doris with her husband Tom Colliver had emigrated on the CP SS Montrose arriving in St John on 1 April the previous year. (National Archive of Canada Immigration Records) It was believed by Tom's sister Enid that both Doris and Tom went to live in Edmonton. Tom changed his surname from Manuell to Mandell (source Tom's daughter Carol
Richard G Potter is the name Thomas gave of Ronalds father
Was Chrissie playing away????
Was it just too much for Thomas at the age of 21 with 2 children plus another on the way????
We may never know . . . .unless genetics from English and Canadian family's would be able to say if Thomas was the father. . . .
OK on with the facts
