Bozeman, Nov. 2 -- The funeral of the late J. W. Mardis took place from the family residence on Black avenue south Sunday afternoon. Rev. F. B. Lewis of St. James' church read the impressive funeral service. The funeral was largely attended by the many friends of Mr. Mardis, the members of the G. A. R. and I. O. O. F. attending in a body. Mr. Mardis was one of Montana's pioneers. He was born in Hollidaysburg, Pa., in 1841, and came to Virginia City in 1864, and about two years later came to the Gallatin valley, where he has been a successful farmer. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Holliday of Livingston and Mrs. Congdon of this city, and two sons, Ed. and John. [1]
