Biography

Possible: Birth 23 June 1860 in Hoffnungstal (Nadzeijewo, Greater Poland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadziejewo,_Greater_Poland_Voivodeship), parents Johann MARTIN and Rosina HARSCH from Gedbas.genealogy.net.

Arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 16 May 1888 on the ship Vaderland from Antwerp Belgium. Johns (sic) 28, Bertha 26, Mina 2 1/2, Otto 4. All from Prussia.

Found information at Family Search.org on the birth of Hedwig Bertha Maria Marten which lists the Father as Johannes Marten, and Bertha Brendemuehl.

it appears that Marten, was changed to Martin in the 1905 census? 1905 Wisconsin Census list John Martin and Bertha. John's occupation was Teamster.

1910 Census has John Martin (49 y/o) (husband of Bertha A Brendamueller) residing at 1029 30th St (north?) Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Emigrated with Bertha and Otto in 1888. His father was born in Germany, Mother was born in Germany (says Powwww?) Father of Otto E (22 y/o in 1910 B-Germany), Hattie M (16 y/o), Clara (14 y/o- ) and Herbert A (11 y/o). Missing from the census is Ella (Should be 18 y/o in 1910) and Minnie (should be 25 y/o in 1910). 8 children were born, 6 are living. John is listed as a Watchman at Asbestos factory. Otto E is listed as a compositor at a print shop. Hatty (Sic) is listed as a servant for a private family, Clara and Herbert are in school.
