Biography
Elizabeth was born in 1798, the daughter of John Martin and Elizabeth Lewis. She married Nathaniel Taylor and died in 1819.

~~~~~ "Major John Martin (son of Thomas Martin & Ann Moorman), married in 1775 Elizabeth Lewis, daughter of David Lewis, of Albermarle county, Va. He was born 1748, in Albemarle county, Va; was a Captain, and was promoted to Major at the siege of York; stayed in Virginia during the Revolutionary War, and in 1784 moved to Kentucky; he was the first sheriff in Clarke county, and was afterwards for many years one of the judges of the court of Quarter Sessions in Clarke county; he was a farmer and died in Clarke county in 1837; he was 5 feet 10 inches high, strong muscular frame, weighting about 200 lb, florid complexion, red hair, blue eyes, and very fair skin. He was a man of great energy. About 1798 he professed religion and joined the Methodist E. Church, of which he continued a zealous and consistent member."

Major John Martin's will was written and signed by him in 4 Feb 1836. The will of Major John Martin, deceased, was filed in Clarke County December Court 1837.
Major John Martin does not have the middle name "Grumby" in any documents that I have found to date.
Elizabeth Lewis was the daughter of David Lewis and his 3rd wife Mary McGrath, widow of a Dr. Hart of Phliladelphia. Elizabeth is named in her father's will. She doesn't have a middle name of "McGrath" in any document that I have found to date.
According to Dr. Samuel D. Martin he did not have brothers named Andrew or Gideon. I have yet to find sources to prove such a claim, but rather numerous documents to disprove the assertion. James Taylor Martin is a full brother to Samuel D. Martin. Their mother, Elizabeth Lewis, had an aunt, Elizabeth McGrath whose 2nd husband was James Taylor III. So it seems that he was named after his mother's uncle, James Taylor III.
Thomas Martin and Ann Moorman are my 5th great grandparents. Their son Major John Martin & Elizabeth Lewis are my 4th great grandparents. Major John Martin is my primary DAR Ancestor. DAR #A074355 Major John Martin was promoted to Major at Yorktown for his bravery. He is the father of Dr. Samuel D. Martin, author of "Genealogical Record of the Martin Family". Dr. Samuel D. Martin and Elizabeth Taylor are my 3rd great grandparents.
