Biography
Andrew M Mather was born around 1862 in Mahaska, Iowa. He was the son of Andrew W. Mather and Mary Ann Laraway.
Andrew's father Andrew W. Mather enlisted in the Army in 1861 during the Civil War and served in the 15th Iowa Infantry. He passed away from disease in 1862.[1]
Andrew's mother Mary Ann Mather married Jacob Hull in Mahaska, Iowa. [2]
In 1870 Jacob Hull (age 57) and his wife Mary Ann (age 40) are living in Mahaska, Iowa with their children: Lida Estella (age 4), Everett (age 3, misspelled Evrttee), and Clarence (age 1). Also in the home are Alice Ann Hull (age 13) from Jacob's marriage to Sarah Thomas; Emily Mather (age 17) and Andrew Mather (age 8) from Mary Ann's marriage to Andrew W. Mather; Jacob and Alice were born in Virginia. Emily was born in Ohio. Mary Ann and Emily were born in Ohio. All the others were born in Iowa. Jacob is a farmer. Mary Ann is keeping house; Alice and Andrew are attending school.[3]
1880 M. A. Hull (Mary Ann, widow, age 50) is living in New Sharon, Mahaska, Iowa with her children: Andy Mather (age 18), Lida E Hull (age 14), Evert E Hull (age 12) Mary E. Hull (age 9), and M.R. Hull (age 5, Monroe). Mary Ann is a land lady. Andy, Lida, and Everett are attending school. Mary Ann was born in Ohio. The others were all born in Iowa. [4]
