Biography

Peter Fritz Otto Matthiessen was born in 1907. He passed away in 1995.

"Peter Matthiessen (born January 17, 1907 in Kiel; died May 20, 1995 in Itzehoe) was a German administrative lawyer and member of parliament in Schleswig-Holstein."[1]

Residence 1927 Marburg; "he began studying law and political science at the Philipps University of Marburg . In 1927 he became active in the Corps Rhenania Strasbourg in Marburg"[2]

"The Eckernförde home community and the “Round Table against the Right” invited interested listeners to a lecture on Saturday, August 27th, at 7 p.m. on the topic “Mayors and district administrators in Eckernförde before and after 1945 - Dr. Wilhelm Sievers and Dr. Helmut Lemke, Dr. Walter Alnor, Peter Matthiesen and Walter Mentzel” were invited to St. Nicolai Church. The speaker is the Bremen historian Dr. Luke Grawe.

"The district administrators of the former Eckernförde district, Dr. Walter Alnor, Peter Matthiessen and the later “State Councilor” Mentzel were able to continue their careers in the Federal Republic, sometimes in prominent positions. All three apparently had good contacts with Nazi Gauleiter Lohse, who owned the nearby Lindhof experimental farm, which was now state-owned. After Lohse's appointment as "Reich Commissar East", they were appointed as reliable "executors" in key functions of the "civil administration" of the "Reich Commissariat" in Estonia and Latvia. There are cross-references that go far beyond the local historical framework."[3]

"He was indispensable until 1945, when he deployed to the Eastern Front as a lieutenant in the Wehrmacht. At the end of the war, he and his Wehrmacht unit were arrested by the Americans and extradited to the Soviet Union as a “ reconstruction worker.” This was followed by nine years of imprisonment in a prisoner of war camp near Stalingrad. Like many Russian prisoners of war, Matthiessen was sentenced to long years of forced labor in mock trials by the Stalinist justice system. In 1954 Matthiessen returned to Germany via the Friedland reception camp."[4]

"From 1955 to 1972, Peter Matthiessen was district administrator in the Steinburg district . Matthiessen became a member of the CDU in 1957 . He was chairman of the district association of the Indivisible Germany Board of Trustees and the European Union , the German Red Cross , the adult education center, the local association, the German Forest Protection Association , the German War Graves Commission and the German Olympic Society in Itzehoe, as well as a member of the supervisory board of the Schleswig-Holsteinische Power Supply AG. From 1967 to 1975 he was a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein ."[5]
