Biography

Edward Maye was born in 1913 in New York. He was the son of Irish immigrants Patrick Maye and Margaret Gormley.

In 1920, the Maye's lived on 37 East 76th Street in Manhattan. Edward (6) lived with his parents Patrick (40) and Margaret (39). His father was a carpenter. Their home was open as a boarding house. Guests included Margaret Eagan (76), Margaret Eagan (40), Mary Druer (36), Norma Druer (17), Madeline Evans (27), Annie Gaul (24), Daniel Gorman (41), Annie Gorman (27), David Saft (35), Mary Saft (27) and Joel Larson (22)[1].

The family moved to 229 East 80th Street in Manhattan by 1930. Edward (17) lived with Patrick (50) and Margaret (49). Their census record has several errors and discrepancies. It seems as if the information was taken from a neighbour rather than the actual family themselves. It states Patrick and Margaret were born in Northern Ireland rather than the Irish Free State and that Edward was born there too instead of New York. Their occupations are also left blank. Patrick and Margaret's marriage year was incorrect[2].

In 1940, Edward (27) lived at the same home with Patrick (60) and Margaret (59). He was a lawyer working in his own office[3].
