Malcolm McAfee was the son of John McAfee (born about 1670) and Mary Rodgers. Malcolm was probably born sometime around 1705 in County Armagh in northern Ireland where his parents were living. His estimated date of birth is based on (1) his father was "a mere boy" when he took part with King William in the battle of the Boyne in Ireland in 1690, and (2) his brother, James McAfee, was born in 1707. General Robert B. McAfee, a grandson of James, wrote in his autobiography that Malcolm was one of ten children, four boys (John, James, Malcolm and William) and six girls.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence that Malcolm ever left Ireland, although his brother, James McAfee, emigrated to North America in 1739.
