Jacob was born in 1915. He married Dorothy Crabtree in 1945 after meeting her brother in the Army during the 1939-45 war. He passed away in 1986.
He was born and brought up in Princes Street, Ayr - now demolished and redeveloped. He went to Russell Street School, Ayr - this too has been demolished and replaced with Newton Primary School.
On leaving school he tried to become a motor mechanic but could not stand the oil and petrol fumes. He joined James MacCallum, a butcher in Prestwick, and remained there all his working life, eventually buying the shop.
After retirement he moved to Chorley, Lancashire, England.
