Biography

Born in Edgefield County, South Carolina, James was the son of James Gilbert McCoy (1816-1890) and Margaret Boddie (1819-1910).[1] His siblings included:

  1. W. Capers McCoy (bc 1842)
  2. Mosina Mccoy (bc 1844)
  3. Elizabeth McCoy (bc 1846)
  4. Henrietta McCoy (bc 1849)

James T. McCoy and Carolina M. Tilley married on October 22, 1863 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana[2] and made their home there.[3][4]

Research Notes

There were no death or burial records for James T. McCoy (as listed on his marriage record); however, there are other death and burial records for another James McCoy in the time period in Louisiana. This James McCoy, however, is a person of color, an African-American, and the 1850 census lists James T. McCoy's race as white, as it does for his wife.
