Donald Duncan McDermid was born on 13.8.1924 in Semaphore, South Australia, Australia to parents Thomas and Ethel Alice McDermid (nee Ford).
Donald enlisted to serve in World War II on 14.5.1942 at Battle Station, NSW and allocated service number SX31600. He had previous service with the Australian Military Forces as a Private with the 3rd & 23rd AITB and a Private with the 18th Australian Infantry Battalion. He was described as 5 foot 6 and a quarter inches tall, with blue eyes, fair complexion and light brown hair. He served in New Guinea and Borneo and his unit prior to discharge was HQ 7th Australian Division. He was discharged on 29.3.1946.
Donald married Brier Pollard on 22.5.1944 at Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. Brier and Donald’s address after the war was 77 Victoria Road, Birkenhead.
Donald and Brier had 2 children - Bevan and Sharyn.
Donald died on 19.1.2009 in South Australia, Australia, aged 83 years. He was buried at Centennial Park, Pasadena, South Australia.
