James Lyal McDuhie was baptized 21 May 1816 in Fordyce, the son of Thomas McDuie and Mary Lyal. In the 1851 census, James, a 34 year old Grocery Merchant, is living with his widowed mother Mary at Fish Cross St in Fraserburgh. Also there is his sister Mary Ann McDuie and two lodgers. James married Betsy Brown 11 Jul 1853 in Crimond. They had at least 4 children. In the 1861 census, James, a 44 year old Grocer and Fish Curer, is living at 1 Fish Cross St in Fraserburgh with his wife Betsy and their children Mary, William, Agness and Margret and one Domestic Servant. Their daughter Agnes is also shown as being at Betsy's Mother's residence in Starafin, Crimond. I did not find the family in the 1871 census so perhaps they moved to Victoria before then.
James died 08 Sep 1866 and is buried in the Amherst Cemetery in Talbot Victoria, Australia.
I have no knowledge or records on his life in Australia other than the gravestone information. This data was entered by a previous Profile Manager apparently no longer a member of Wiki Tree. For that reason, I chose to not add James' Australian data to the biography section, but leave it where it is with the Reference section.
