Biography

The son of Charles McGee and his first wife, Audrey (Hollis) McGee, James McGee was born in Westpoint, Tennessee in 1925.^{[citation needed]} By 1930, his family lived in Old Hickory, Tennessee.^[1] After her mother's death in 1936, James McGee lived with his aunt, Willie (Hollis) Hill, and her family, who lived in Florence, Alabama.^[2]

James McGee enlisted in the United States Navy on January 1, 1941,^[3] and was admitted to a military hospital in November of 1944 for a non-traumatic illness.^[4] He was discharged on January 1, 1945.^[3]

After the war, he married "Estelle." They made their home in Old Hickory, Tennessee where, in 1950, both James and his wife worked at the same rayon plant as James' father.^[5] He lived in Old Hickory^[6] until his death in 2009,^[7] at the age of 84.
