s/o Irishman John McGuire who was part of the British Army and fought in the Penisular Wars, earning a medal.[2] He was from Cavan and was a weaver before joining the Cavan Militia in 1807. He went to Spain in 1809. He took his family to Canada in the 1840's.[3]
