Biography

John McKinnon was born in Scotland.

Note: This may not be the correct father for Helen McKinnon.

John was born about 1792 (based on an age of 25 when he married) probably in Scotland. Nothing is known about John's parents.

He was a wright when he married Isabella Jamison, daughter of John Jamison, carter^[1] on 6 September 1817 at Dundee, Forfarshire^[2][3].

Nothing more is known about John.

Research Notes

He may be the father of Helen (1820 -1868^[4]) based on her death certificate which gave her father as John McKinnon.

No confirmed record of his death has been found so far, or of children. There is a burial of a John McKinnon on 24 March 1818 in Dundee, Forfarshire^[5], which may be this one.

I believe that this is NOT the John MacKinnon, seaman, who married Isabella Rae on 19 August 1817 at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire^[6]. See his profile for discussion about his possibly being the father of Helen McKinnon. (Dickson-4413 01:09, 6 August 2023 (UTC))
