He married Anastasia Fitzgerald on 4 October 1915 in Warrnambool, Victoria.^[1] Their children were:^{[citation needed]}

• George James McLaren (1917–1978)
• Kevin FitzGerald McLaren (1921–1969)
• Robert Emmett McLaren (1926–2001)

In 1919, Robert was living in Koroit, Victoria.^[2]

Robert died on 11 November 1961 in Woolsthorpe, aged 80 years.^[3]
