Biography

Mary (McLay) Powell was born in Scotland.

Mary McLay, daughter of Alexander McLay and Agnes Maxwell, was baptised on 21 December 1823 in Muiravonside, Stirlingshire, Scotland.

Mary married Alexander McKenzie on 2 May 1850 in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. They had a son, William "Willie" McKenzie, born in 1852. Alexander died in 1855 in Williamstown, Victoria.

Mary re-married to Caleb Powell in 1858 in Victoria. Mary and Caleb had 5 children:

1. Mary Isabella Powell, born 1859
2. Susannah Ellen (Powell) Mullin, born 1859
3. Caleb Alexander Powell, born 1861
4. Isabella Joan Powell, born 1863
5. Helen Maxwell Powell, born 1865

Mary (McClay) Powell (wife of Caleb Powell) died in 1885, aged 60 years, at Kew, Victoria.
