John was born about 1884 in Ontario, Canada. He is the son of Donald McLeod and Margaret McLeod.
In the 1891 census John (age 7) was the grandson of Murdock McLeod in Kincardine Township, Bruce West, Ontario, Canada.[1]
In the 1901 census John (age 17), Farmer's Son, was the single son of Donald McLeod in Canada, Ontario.[2]
In 1917 John was mentioned as a surviving son living in North Bay, Ontario in his father's obituary.[3]
