Biography

James (Jock) was a fantastic musician who served with the New Westminster Regiment - Tobin's Tigers 29th Battalion. For years he played with Josh Boyer's Rube Band and they were a daily part of the PNE. He had at one time played in the Orchestra pit at the Orpheum Theatre for the silent movies. When World War II came he retrained in Vernon and became part of the Home Guard stationed at Stanley Park. Jock also played The Last Post year after year at the Memorial Park Cenotaph. Every year he and his fellow bandmates spent Christmas Day playing a concert for the veterans at Shaughnessy Hospital. Jock also was a male psychiatric nurse and worked at the Essendale location at Riverview Hospital until he retired and worked in his retirement years as a part time gardener/handyman at St. George's School for Boys in Vancouver. His first love was his trumpet and the beautiful songs he played.
