Biography

Elisha married 1st ? and had at least one child: Henry Mead

Elisha and his son Henry were both living in Pitts town, Albany County, NY during the 1790 census, as was James Warren, who later put up bond when Elisha died and attended Elisha's funeral.[1]

Elisha married 2nd Elizabeth Gaill on 20 Oct 1796 at the First Stanford Baptist Church in Bangall, Dutchess, New York.[2]

Death & Legacy

Elisha Mead died in February of 1797, and was buried on 10 Feb 1797. Letters of Administration were issued to Henry Mead with James Warren both of Stanford, helping with the bond when Elisha died. Also, James Warren swore that he had attended Elisha's funeral that took place on the tenth of Feb, 1797. Elizabeth Mead, wife of deceased, signed a waiver asking that she be released from administration and the Letters be issued to Henry.[3]

Research Notes

In the Dutchess Deeds book Vol 18 pg 242 we find Henry Mead & Ruth, his wife of Stanford, Dutchess Co, NY, on the 10th of May 1800 selling 110 acres of land to Ezra Luther, also of Stanford, for 700 Pounds.[4] The very next entry is Henry Mead & wife Ruth of North East selling 20 acres of land in North East, Dutchess Co., NY to Ezra Luther of Stanford on June 6th, 1800 for the sum of one shilling & 6 pence. I believe this to be land he acquired from the death of his father, Elisha.[5]
