Biography
Maria Mendoza was born in Mexico around 1870 to Emeterio Mendoza and Aurelia Vidauri. She likely married Francisco Lucio around 1895; their first known child was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas in 1896.[1] They had 2 known children. Maria was widowed in 1907.[2] It is not clear when she moved to the United States with her children, but she is listed as Next of Kin in her son's World War I draft registration. According to that record, she was living in McAllen, Texas at the time.[3] She was still alive and living in McAllen as of the 1920 census.[4] After that, it is not clear if she stayed in the United States or returned to Mexico. No other records of her life have been found.
Research Notes
She was possibly still alive and living with her son as of the 1930 census. There is a Maria enumerated as mother of Head of Household. However, the age listed is 2 years old.[5] Clearly, there is an error in relationship status or in age. More research is needed to clarify.
