Biography

Henry Edgar Miles was born in 1868 in Chichester, Sussex, England to Frederick Miles and Rebecca (Lane) (Savage) Miles. His birth was registered in Chichester in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Lane.[1] He was christened in Chichester on 20 Dec 1868.[2]

In 1871 Henry Miles (age 2) lived in Bournemoor, Dorsetshire with his father Frederick (44, Sawyer), mother Rebecca (37), and three older sisters: Roselinda (14), Sarah (8, Scholar), and Anie (6, Scholar), as well as boarder Marth Northover (21, Laundress).[3]

Henry's father Frederick Miles passed away in early 1881 in Christchurch, Hampshire.

In 1881 Harry Miles (age 12, Scholar) lived in Christchurch with his mother Rebecca (47, Laundress), sister Annie (16, Teacher School), and lodger Edwin Lush (18, Assistant in Mineralwater Factory).[4]

In 1891 Henry Edgar Mills (age 22, Solicitors Clerk) lived at Victoria Road in Christchurch with his mother Rebecca (57, Laundress) and nephew Alfred George Agustus Earney (10, Scholar).[5]

Henry Edgar Miles married Winifred Margaret Jones in 1895. The marriage was registered in Christchurch in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Henry and Winifred had two children: Elsie Winifred Mary (Miles) Petre (1899-1979) and Victor Henry Miles (1902-1962).

In 1901 Henry E Miles (age 32, Solicitor's Clerk) lived at Henville Road in Bournemouth, Hampshire with his wife Winifred M (29) and daughter Elsie W M (2).[7]

In 1911 Henry Edgar Miles (age 42, Law Clerk) lived in Bournemouth with his wife Winifred Margaret (39), daughter Elsie Winifred Mary (12, School), and son Victor Henry (9, School).[8]

Henry's wife passed away in 1939: "MILES Winifred Margaret of 149 Capstone-road Bournemouth (wife of Henry Edgar Miles) died 18 June 1939 Administration London 5 December to the said Henry Edgar Miles solicitors clerk. Effects £842 0s. 3d."[9]

Henry E Miles married Amy C (Sutton) Ware in 1946. The marriage was registered in Bournemouth, Dorset in the second quarter of the year.[10]

Henry's wife passed away in 1948: "MILES Amy Clara of 149 Capstone-road Bournemouth (wife of Henry Edgar Miles) died 24 December 1948 Administration London 30 March to the said Henry Edgar Miles retired solicitors managing clerk. Effects £135 12s. 7d."[11]

Henry E Miles married Kathleen (Hunter) Kidd/Fiddes in 1952. The marriage was registered in Bournemouth in the second quarter of the year.[12]

Henry E Miles passed away on 17 Aug 1953, aged 84 years. His death was registered in Bournemouth in the third quarter of the year.[13] "MILES Henry Edgar of 149 Capstone-road Bournemouth died 17 August 1953 Probate London 4 November to Kathleen Miles widow. Effects £9768 17s. 3d."[14]
