There is a record for a christening that took place on 9 June 1722 and while the transcript reads "Ham, Kent" it was most likely Hamstreet, Kent as Hamstreet was known as "Ham" at the time (and all other births for this family took place in this area). His parents were Thomas Milgate and most likely Elisabeth Hadlar. [1]
He married Sarah Tyler on 20 October 1739 in Woodchurch, Kent, England.
They had two known children, both baptised in Appledore, Kent:
Thomas Milgate, baptised on 7 Sep 1740[2] and buried on 19 Apr 1741.[3]

Hi Anna, thanks for your work on this family. It's really appreciated. I'm trying to sort out the Thomas Milgate who married Sarah Tyler. Do you have any sources to confirm it was the Thomas who was born in 1722 at Ham? He would have been quite young when he married in 1739 and High Halden is a fair way from Ham. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Gillian
Hi Gillian, as mentioned in the biography Hamstreet was known as Ham until the railway arrived about a century after Thomas was born and the tiny hamlet was renamed. So the location is about a 3hr walk to High Halden, 1.5hr walk to Woodchurch where Thomas and Sarah married and 1.5hr walk to Appledore where they lived. The real concern, as you rightly point out, is the age at marriage which was only around 17 and that does cause some questions. It's not like their first child was born less than 9 months after the marriage, which might provide some rationale. We will all need to keep digging. Do you have any ideas?
