Denis Lloyd Minchin was born on 26 February 1918.[1] He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Frederick Falkiner Minchin and Caroline Jane Royds Lloyd.

His father died in 1922.

Denis was educated at Wellington College, Wellington, Berkshire, England and at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.

He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Artillery.

His mother died in 1938.

Denis fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.

He died on 11 November 1940 at age 22, accidentally killed, unmarried.[2]

OFFICERS KILLED IN NORTH-EAST
Verdicts of "Accidental death" were recorded at an inquest in a North-East town on two Army officers, Captain Denis Minchin (22), R.A., and Lieut. Joseph William Ridley (31), R.A., who in the course of their duty were killed in an explosion in a military area.
Lieut. Ridley, whose home is in South Shields, was a director of the Ridley Steam Tug Co., Ltd., Newcastle and South Shields.
Formerly a Territorial officer, he was called up four months ago.
Lieut. Ridley, who was a member of an old south Shields tug family, was married on the day before the outbreak of war.[3]

His will was proved on 1 April 1941 at Llandudno to Richard Humphrey Lloyd Minchin, farm manager, and Doreen Margaret Minchin, spinster.[4] Effects: 7989 9s. 5d.
