1871 Birth:
James (Jim per birth registration, all other sources refer to him as James) was born in 1871 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, as his parent were living there at the time of the 1871 census.[1] He was the son of George Mogg and Rosannah Harris. His birth was registered in the June quarter of 1871.

1881 Census:
In 1881 James was 11 years old, at school and living with his family Malt Mill Lane, The Hill, Halesowen, Staffordshire. His record states he was born in Rowley Regis about 2 miles from were the family are now. His father George was 36, born Halesowen and a coal miner and his mother Roseanna 35, born Rowley Regis was a nailer (refer to his parents profile for further details of their professions in the area). He has 3 younger siblings, Sophia 9, George 4 (both born in Rowley Regis) and William 10 months (born Halesowen).

1891 Census:
By 1891 the faimily were now living at Gorsty Hill, The Hill, Halesowen. James is 18 and a coal miner like his father. His father George is 40 and his mother Roseanna 40. They have 3 other sons at home George 13, William 11 and Thomas 7 all at school.

First Marriage
1896 Marriage:
In 1896 James married Sarah Mole in the Stourbridge registration district. (About 7 miles from Rowley Regis)

1898 Birth of Daughter:
James and Sarah's daughter Ada Mogg was born in 1898 and the birth was registered in the Stourbridge in the June quarter. [6]
She was baptised on 22 April 1898 in Blackheath, Worcestershire, England.[7]
1898 Death of Wife:
In the same quarter as his daughter was born his wife Sarah died at the age of 32. [8]
1898 Death of Daughter:
In the September quarter his daughter Ada died at about 3 months old.

1901 Census:
The family were now living at the back of Oldbury Road, Cakemoor, Blackheath
(which is close to Rowley Regis), James is now 29 and still a coal miner however the record states he was widowed and back living with his parents. He is working as a coal hewer, below ground. His father is 55 still mining and a hewer too. His brother still living at home are George 23 (labouerer in tube works), William 21 (nut and bolt cutter) and Thomas 17 (a carter on farm) all single still.

1905 Birth of Child:
Their daughter Rosanna was born in about 1905 in the Dudley registration district. She was named after James's mother.[12][13]
1911 Census:
In the 1911 census James aged 40 was a labourer at a tube work. He was married to Susannah 40, for the last 7 years and they had one daughter Rose aged 6 and at school. They were living at 22 Powke Lane, Blackheath, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England which had 2 rooms.[14]
Later Life
1928 Death:
He died in 1928 at the age of 57 in the Dudley registration district.
