Biography

Patrick Molloy lived in Reefton, West Coast, New Zealand.

Patrick was born about 1841. He may have been the son of Peter Molloy and Jane Donohoe of Clonmore, near Tullamore, County Offaly.

In 1872 in New Zealand he married Mary O'Halloran. ^[1]

He passed away 3 April 1925 "age 83" at Reefton, where he had lived for over 40 years. He was survived by his wife and seven children: ^[2]

• Sister Mary Egbert of the Mission Convent, Christchurch.

Research Notes

Two other children of the linked parents, John and James, both ended up living on the West Coast of New Zealand. So perhaps Patrick was their brother, although I haven't yet found documentary evidence of this.

There is a Catholic baptism 20 March 1836 for "Patt", son of the expected parents. ^[3]

It seems likely to me this is the same person; it was very common for Irish emigrants to under-report their ages on records in their adopted country. Another possibility may be that the 1836 Patt died, and this Patrick was born later and we have not found his baptism.
