Biography

Henry Morris was born on December 11, 1843 in Clifton, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Henry Morris, collier, and Sarah Wain. Henry was baptised on 25 July 1844 in St Savior, Ringley, Lancashire, England.^[1]

In the 1851 census Henry (age 7) was living with his parents, 4 siblings, 2 servants and 2lodgers at their home on Woodgate Row in Clifton, Lancashire, England.^[2]

During the 1861 census Henry (age 16) was living with his parents, 7 siblings and paternal grandmother in Clifton, Lancashire, England. He was employed as a coal miner like his brothers and father.^[3]

Henry arrived in New York on 15 May 1865 aboard the ship "City of Boston".He was recorded as 22 years old and a miner.^[4]

He married Mary Watson on December 25, 1870 in Mercer, Pennsylvania, United States. ^{[citation needed]} Mary had immigrated to the US with her 5 year old son Robert Watson from Scotland a few months earlier. Together they had at least 7 children:

In the 1880 census Henry (age 32) was the married head of household in Stoneboro, Mercer, Pennsylvania, United States.^[5]

In the 1900 census Henry (age 55) was the married head of household in Des Moines Township, Boone, Iowa, United States.^[6]

Henry Morris drowned and died on September 6, 1906 in Boone, Iowa, United States at the age of 60 years.^[7] He was buried on September9th.^[8]

• DOB was recorded at death as 11 Dec 1844, however, there are no GRO records of his birth at that time.
• His christening record in July 1844 indicates his birth was in 1843. Adjusted to keep day and month and change the year
• removed parents Joseph Morris and Mary Unknown as there are no records connecting him to these two. Although, if his marriage record is found it may indicate his parents names. No parental information was included on his death certificate
