Notes to Researchers and Descendants

  • See father's profile, linked to this profile, for more data on family Bible.
  • The findagrave site claimed her death date was 5 Aug 1949 and she died in Petersburg, Lincoln County, Tennessee. She was buried in Old Orchard Cemetery, Petersburg, Lincoln County, Tennessee, USA.
  • The Mary Ann Morton who died in 1949 in Lincoln County, Tennessee was the same one named in William and Sarah (Gilbert) Morton's Bible. This is proven in various ways. She's in her father's household in 1900 in Lincoln County, Tennessee and in her brother's household in 1930 in Lincoln County, Tennessee, where she's later buried.
  • The 1930 U.S. Census for Lincoln County, Tennessee shows a Mary A. Morton listed as age 61 and the sister of Berry C. Morton, age 71, whose wife Ruth is also seen in the household. Berry is likely the child Barachias Morton listed born 21 January 1859 in the Bible of William and Sarah (Gilbert) Morton. Both Mary and Berry Morton were shown born in Tennessee. Berry's Lincoln County findagrave site shows no evidence by claims his full name was Berry Chiaz Morton and claims his wife Ruth's maiden name was Gilbert, which was the maiden name of Barachias' and Mary Ann's mother, Sarah (Gilbert) Morton. And Sarah (Gilbert) Morton lived in Lincoln County at the time of her marriage. So, this fits nicely leading us to believe that Berry and Mary Ann in the 1930 U.S. Census for Lincoln County, Tennessee were the children of William and Sarah (Gilbert) Morton.
