Elizabeth "Bettie" Moggach (1810-?) was the daughter of John Moggach (abt.1776–1853) and his wife, Jane "Jean" Edward (abt.1779–1827).
She was born in the Banffshire parish of Botriphnie and was baptised in the parish on 30 January 1810, where her name was recorded in the baptismal register as "Elisabeth Mouggach".[1]
Elizabeth appears to have had a daughter with James McDonald (dates unknown)l named Jean "Jane" McDonald (1833–?). The child was baptised at Botriphnie on 20 April 1833.[2] The author has not reviewed the baptismal record to see whether the child's birth was legitimate. Jean was recorded as a seven-year-old boarder in the home of her grandfather and uncles at Eastertown in Botriphnie on the 1841 census.[3] Jean was at Mains of Towiebeg in the same parish on the 1851 census, where she was listed as the niece of Elizabeth's brother, Joseph Moggach (1806–1878), the head of household.[4]
A record for a marriage between Elizabeth Moggach and James McDonald on the indexes of marriages in Scotland has not been found.
No record for the death of an Elizabeth Moggach (or similar) has been found in the statutory registers in Scotland. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, she is assumed to have died before 1855, or to have died outwith Scotland.
