Also, Jose Figueireido, 21, a ward, born in Portugal, ranch foreman; and Anna Walters, 47, born in Switzerland, a cook.[4]

Hanna, 48, A fruit farmer, and not a veteran; his wife of 24 years, Wanda M., 49; their children, all born in California, the eldest three in college, and the younger three in school: Strentzel, 23; John M., 21; Richard R., 18; Robert E.,15; Jean S., 11; and Ross E., 7. Also, Anna Walters, 58, born in Switzerland, a housework servant.[5]
In 1940, the Hanna family lived on Alhambra Valley Road, Township 1, Contra Costa, California. They owned their property, valued at $25,000. All members of the household had lived in the same house for at least five years, except as noted. The household included Thomas R. Hanna, 59, who had completed four years of college, a free trader/private business; his wife Wanda M., 59, completed four years of college, in real estate/private business; their three sons, Robert, 24, completed four years of high school, an agent for National Biscuit Co.: John M., 31, completed four years of college, purchasing agent for a smelting company; and Ross E., 17, completed three years of high school. Also, Hanion G. Hanna, stepson, 18, who had moved from San Francisco within the last five years, a laborer in a smelting company; and Ellis E. Pierce, 70, widowed, a boarder, who had completed four years of college. Thomas, Wanda and their two eldest sons each had an outside income.[6]
Wanda Muir and Thomas R. Hanna are mentioned as parents in the marriage record of their son, John Muir Hanna, 30, who married Virginia E. Young, 26, on 6 August 1939 in San Joaquin, California. Virginia was born in 1913, the daughter of William Harrison Young and Elizabeth Barber. [7]
