James Watson Mundell was born on 24 April 1843, in Greene, Pennsylvania, United States. His father was Garrett D. Mundell, and his mother, Hannah (Thompson) Mundell. He married Joanna (Townsend) Mundell on 14 April 1864, in Greene, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 daughters. He lived in German Township, Fayette, Pennsylvania, United States in 1910 and Cumberland Township, Greene, Pennsylvania, United States in 1920. He died on 20 August 1922, in Carmichaels, Greene, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Glades Cemetery, Carmichaels, Greene, Pennsylvania, United States. [1]

James Watson Mundell died at his home in Cumberland township, Monday, August 20, of infirmities of advanced years. He was a son of Garrett and Hannah Mundell, deceased, and was born April 24, 1843. He was united in marriage with Miss Joanna Townsend, April 14, 1864, whose death occurred May 20, 1876. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Albert Allison and Mrs. Minor Stone of Carmichaels; Mrs. Margaret Darrell of Masontown; and Mrs. Ellen Grover of Beallsville. Mr. Mundell was a Civil War veteran, having been a member of Co. A 22nd Pennsylvania Ringgold Calvary. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Grand Army of the Republic. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home and at Glades Church, conducted by Rev. J.W. Smith, assisted by Rev. W. H. Johnson. Interment in Glades Cemetery. [1]
