Ursula Hannelore was the third child of Eduard Mundt and Karoline Busse. She was born on January 25, 1940, just a few months after the outbreak of World War II. Her family lived on an estate in German East Prussia called Erlenflet. That is where Ursula was born. She was baptised in the evangelical church of the neighbouring village of Ballethen, East Prussia. [1]
Ursula's father Eduard was drafted to fight in WWII soon after she was born, so mother Karoline was left alone with her three children. In early 1945 the mother and her children fled westwards and came to Elmenhorst near Stralsund, Germany. It was there where the 5 year old Ursula saw the end of WWII. First the family lived together with many more refugees in the dining hall of the local inn. Later they got a little house in the village. In 1948, Ursula's father returned home from France where he had been a Prisoner of War.
In the summer of 1960, when 20 year old Ursula and a friend went to a dance night in the neighbouring village of Zarrendorf, she met her future husband Siegfried Krüger. After a while she was pregnant and Siegfried and Ursula married soon.
They got married on October 6, 1961 in Elmenhorst. A few weeks later, on October 31, 1961 their first child Ralf was born. Two children followed: Kerstin in 1964 and Anke in 1966.
In 1964 the young family left the village of Elmenhorst to live in the city of Stralsund. Nevertheless, they kept visiting the village often and their children spent most of the summer holidays at their grandparent's place in Elmenhorst.
Ursula worked in a department store in the historic town centre of Stralsund until her retirement in the early 1990's. Since 1996 she suffered from Plasmacytoma.
Ursula Hannelore Krüger died on June 15, 2016 in Stralsund, Germany.
